public relations has been said that it's a profession that's liked by women more than men and we can even notice this in universities and in working places where they have public relations sector in them. The reason I believe why companies prefer female PR executives is because women usually have more patience, courtesy, initiative and organizational expertise. If looking at my MA class for example, in our course Public Communications and Public Relations we will also find that there are more women than men, for example there is only about 5 male students in our class out of 43 students. This phenomena has been analysed in some public relations books and my research and thoughts will be based on this phenomena. Here are some recent studies on this topic:Gendered Profession: A Developing Theory for Public Relations, which was conducted by (Maryland University).
Conceived Feminist Paradigm for Public Relations, by (University of Florida).
Gender and Management, (St. Andrews University).
These studies show that women and public relations is an issue that has been around for many years. It is also an area that is up and coming in terms of trends in the industry. Women dominate the numbers in public relations; however there is not nearly the amount of writing and research to give a clear representation of what a woman deals with when entering a career in PR. Also, public relations classes are being filled by women. With this surge of activity, there are millions of questions that can be looked at. Where do women stand in PR? Why is PR such an attractive career path for so many women? What are the biggest challenges to a women who is already in the field or for someone who wants to enter? The purpose of this study was to look at the increase of women working in this profession or who are going to enter in the profession and also to look into some of the issues facing the women in the public relations industry.

Lina Well done this is a great subject that you have decided to blog about. I agree with you, five years ago when I was doing an Undergraduate course in Public Relations at the University of San Diego we had only 3 men in our class and our classes used to be filled up with women. And now I'm studying a PHd degree at the University of Maryland and I still see that the majority are women who dominate this course we only have 4 men this year out of a class of 55 people. Even in the Stetes the majority of women who work in this profession has increased dramatically, this has become a very popular profession for women, I'm sure this phenomena is seen today in other coutries around the world.
